Despite its focus on lighting technology, the JBL Pulse 5 features sophisticated sound technology, distinct from the Charge 5. It includes a fully active 2-way arrangement with a 1.6 cm tweeter and a 6.4 cm low-midrange driver, uniquely positioned under a plastic grille adorned with JBL logos. Two Class D amplifiers power the drivers with 30 and 10 watts, respectively.

The fully active separation enhances clarity, even when the woofer is at its limit. A passive membrane in the base area supports the lower bass range, and a LED light ring adorns the bass radiator. To allow light and sound to disperse sideways, the speaker stands on three rubberized plastic legs.
